Modular Rig

Brand new to Camera Control is Mark Roberts Motion Control's new Modular Rig.

The Ulti-Head is designed to be the ultimate in precise and portable motion control heads. But now it is even more versatile as it is specifically designed to be a very modular motion control system with easy addition of extra axes of motion. In particular, the axis of Track adds a tremendous degree of freedom to the Ulti-head and any shoot. The recently added lift column gives precise and rapid vertical motion from 4'2" to 7'

High speed precision track

The high speed track axis will drive the rig at speeds of up to 10 feet per second, yet is fully back-driveable for recording moves operated by a dolly grip. The precision lightweight track is much more stable than standard dolly track, yet still light and quick to set up. The system comes standardly with 30' of track with up to 60' available.

Portable and adjustable

The Ultihead can be directly mounted to the base giving a minimum lens height of under 2'6". The mounting plate can be inverted adding 8". The base has custom made mounting points for Regular or Baby sticks allowing for easy adjustment of lens height in the normal shooting range.

Record and playback

This rig can be programmed with traditional keyframing, can be used with the full functionality of the Flair software for CG Move Import and Export and additionally can be operated by a live action crew. The dolly grip can push the dolly while the DP operates the handwheels and the A/C pulls focus and zoom. The system records all the motion and then can play it back. Almost unlimited moves can be stored, and any move can be smoothed for playback or exported for CG interfacing.
